Benjamin Britten: Saint Nicolas
Op. 42       Text by Eric Crozier

with Nittany Valley Children's Chorus

Benjamin Britten (1913-76), one of the greatest English composers of the 20th century, used innovation to transform traditional music forms. His cantata Saint Nicolas, composed for tenor soloist, children's chorus, chorus, and orchestra in 1948) is a dramatic depiction the life of St. Nicolas in nine scenes.

Georg Friedrich Handel:
Israel In Egypt

Handel's Israel in Egypt, composed in 1739, is the story of Passover in song. From the slavery and suffering the piece moves to Moses’ triumph in leading the Israelites out of Egypt. “Moses’ Song” in the second half contains some of the most magnificent choral-orchestral anthems ever composed.
