On our bucket list for many years, the Poulenc Gloria finally makes it’s way to the Choral Society stage. The work, with its large instrumentation, provides all the colors available on Poulenc’s palette. Rich in adventurous harmonies and alive with creative rhythms, the Poulenc Gloria is a joy for both singer and listener. Coupled with the Poulenc is the Mendelssohn Second Symphony. This lush work includes an opening symphonia followed by several vocal solo and choral movements. Mendelssohn’s language is expansive and majestic as he sets this Hymn of Praise. Joining us on this concert is the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra and the State High Master Singers. In recognition of the collaborative spirit between Choral Society and Master Singers, their conductor, Erik Clayton, takes the baton for the Poulenc. We look forward to seeing you at our 74th season finale.
